Atlin Gold
Northern British Columbia, Canada

JAU has secured an option to acquire a highly prospective gold property located on Consolation Creek in the Atlin Mining Division of British Columbia.

The property is comprised of a block of 18 claims that cover the highest gold sample taken by the BC Geological Survey during its Atlin Area Regional Geochemical Stream Silt Reconnaissance Survey. The sample was taken from the silts in Consolation Creek, which drains Surprise Mountain immediately northeast of the town of Atlin, B.C.

As part of the agreement, the Company has also acquired two gold placer leases, which overlie the hardrock claims.

The valley has not been previously mined for placer gold on a large scale, probably due to the glacial cover that has numerous large boulders covering the underlying native streambed. The size of the boulders prevented early prospectors from accessing the underlying gravels. The company expects that with the use of modern excavating equipment, a placer mining operation is possible.

The Atlin gold camp, located in northwestern British Columbia on the eastern shore of Atlin Lake ranks as the second largest producer of placer gold in British Columbia. Since prospectors found gold on Pine Creek in 1897, mining has been the economic engine of the town of Atlin

During the height of mining activity near the turn of the last century, the former town of Discovery, 12 kilometres east of Atlin on Pine Creek, had a population in excess of 10,000. Reported placer gold production between 1898 and 1946 from creeks in the Atlin area totaled 634,147 ounces. A number of the large placer deposits, including those on Otter, Spruce and Pine creeks, continued to produce significant quantities of gold into the late 1980s. Although the total gold production from the area to date is not available, it probably exceeds 1.0 million ounces.

Numerous gold quartz veins occur in the immediate area of the gold placers and are considered to be the source for many of the placer deposits. Many of the local gold occurrences were identified at the turn of the twentieth century following the initial discovery of placer gold. The Imperial Mine, the area's only lode mine, produced during 268 tonnes of ore with an average gold grade of 13.0 grams per tonne at the run of the 2oth Century.
